Thirsty Africa

Water supply in Africa is a critical challenge affecting millions of people, particularly those living in rural or suburban areas.

In many regions, access to safe drinking water is limited due to recurring droughts, climate change, population growth, and inadequate infrastructure. Rural areas are the hardest hit: women and children walk long distances to collect water from sources that are often unsafe, with serious health consequences.

Widespread groundwater pollution and inefficient resource management are exacerbating the problem. Investments in water networks, collection systems, and sustainable management would be essential to ensure safe water and development, but local governments often lack the resources and planning capabilities needed to implement these measures.

The friars are calling for Sister Water for everyone

The friars in Africa live in impoverished areas, sharing the difficult living conditions of the local people. Among these challenges is often access to water sources. The need they are bringing to our attention today is for sufficient water to meet the needs of the villages where they work and of their own communities. Water is also essential to ensure the day-to-day operations of the schools founded by the Friars Minor in Congo-Brazzaville, which now have over 500 students.
