Background
Since 2022, since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, the voices of friars living in war zones reach us with all the dismay with which they are inevitably charged. The friars in Ukraine have a network of friaries spread throughout the country, and they face together with the civilian population the consequences of an event that has brought the topicality of war back to the heart of the Old Continent.
Franciscan presence
The OFM Province of St. Michael the Archangel in Ukraine brings together numerous friaries spread throughout the country. Their presence offers constant help to the most fragile segments of local communities and constant spiritual animation.
Project
The parishes animated by the friars immediately opened its doors to all those who needed help. If in the immediate term the friars offered answers to the basic needs of the elderly, women and children who found themselves helpless in the face of the explosion of war on their doorstep, today the friars are also facing new challenges related to the difficult coexistence with a war event that still shows no glimmer of peace. Providing food, medicine and all the bare necessities for those who have left their homes is as much a daily challenge as finding the resources to build safe places in which to assist those most helpless in the face of the brutality of events .
