A crossroads of problems

The people who inhabit the Panamanian region suffer the consequences of a number of global problems: deforestation, drug trafficking and systematic deprivation of human rights. Issues that, while closely affecting the original peoples of the Amazon, involve the entire global social, economic and ecological system.

The Franciscan mission in Caballococha, located right on the border between Peru, Colombia and Brazil, confronts at close quarters the profound social injustice suffered by the local populations, trying to offer them tools necessary for their own livelihood.

Human rights in the heart of the Amazon

Querida Amazonia is a project to promote social justice for the Peruvian community living in the Caballococha area.

Friars minor are concerned with supporting indigenous peoples in developing a process of empowerment by establishing a network of “human rights promoters.” The aim is to promote the awareness necessary for the self-protection of their rights and interests.
