Invisible marginality
Social marginality has many forms, not always obvious. In Italy, many young people with difficult life experiences behind them face conditions of marginalization and lack of integration at the social, work or emotional level.
Cities like Rome risk relegating these people to invisibility and consigning them to a future of suffering and deviance.
Friars’ commitment to youth
Following the 2011 Latium Provincial Chapter, the Friars Minor of St. Francis a Ripa decided to open the doors of the friary to people experiencing severe social hardship.
Men in home detention, boys released from group homes and young people at risk of marginalization were welcomed by the friars and accompanied on a path of reintegration into society and the world of work.
Through collaboration with other convents and a network of lay workers, guests-regardless of background or religious belief-get room and board and the start of a path toward autonomy.
