Colombia: The Friars’ Work to Support Communities Affected by the Earthquake

26 Aug 2026

The numbers continue to rise, albeit at an increasingly slower pace. Today, reports on the earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10 put the death toll at 331, with an additional 240 people missing. But the most urgent concern is the impact of the more than 31,600 homes destroyed and the 178,000 damaged: the number of people whose daily lives have been upended is enormous.

The friars of the Province of Santa Fe in Colombia have mobilized to support the communities affected by the earthquake, bringing support, aid, and hope to those who need it most. We have received the first images of what they are doing: collecting essential supplies, blessing them, and distributing them to the communities that need them most.

Let’s continue to keep this issue in the spotlight, so that no one is forgotten. Help support the friars’ efforts in Colombia and assist those who must rebuild their lives from the rubble.
