A fratricidal war<\/h3>\n

Myanmar, formerly Burma, has been back in the news since February this year because of the military coup that resulted in the deposition of the democratically elected president. The military has declared a state of emergency, closed borders and silenced communication systems, while continuing to violently suppress people’s protests. The coup helps to widen the gap between rich and poor. Millions of people are at risk of starvation and lack of access to medical care in the midst of a health emergency. Meanwhile, the military continues to perpetrate violence against the population: to date about 700 dissidents have died.<\/p>\n
